The Iran–Iraq War was an armed conflict between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Iraq lasting from September 1980 to August 1988, making it the 20th century's longest conventional war. In Iran is called The Sacred Defence.

The Iran–Iraq War began when Iraq invaded Iran via air and land on 22 September 1980.The war lasted for 8 years - till 20 August 1988. The imposed war is commemorated in Iran as 8 years of Sacred Defense. Each year, Iranian Armed Forces stage nationwide military parades to mark the event.

There are three types of this coin two with 20 shields which one coin shield is more square and the second more rectangular. The third type had 22 shields
